BATON ROUGE ? For the second time in three years, LSU will be one of the featured matchups on the opening weekend of the college football season as the Tigers will face TCU in the 2013 Cowboys Classic in Arlington, Texas, the schools announced on Tuesday.

The 2013 Cowboys Classic featuring LSU and TCU will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31 and will be televised by either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.

?The Cowboys Classic has become one of the premier events in college football and we are excited about making another appearance there to start the 2013 season on national television, ? LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva said. ?The Dallas-Fort Worth area is also rich with LSU supporters and we look forward to taking the Tigers to a great LSU following.?

Next year?s season-opener will mark the second time that the Tigers will appear in the Cowboys Classic as fourth-ranked LSU beat third-ranked Oregon, 40-27, to open the 2011 season at the event in Arlington.

The LSU-TCU matchup will be the first between the teams since 1968 when the Tigers beat the Horned Frogs, 10-7, in Tiger Stadium. LSU leads the series with TCU, 5-2-1. LSU and TCU first met on Jan. 1, 1936 in the Sugar Bowl with the Horned Frogs winning, 3-2.

The LSU-TCU contest will mark the fifth year of the Cowboys Classic, a contest that is a partnership between ESPN and the Dallas Cowboys to bring the top college football game to the Cowboys Stadium during the Labor Day holiday weekend each season.
