Five Tigers Named to Coaches All-SEC Teams

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Just one day after placing eight players on the 2008 Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference Teams on Monday, five members of the LSU football team were named to the All-SEC Coaches? Football Team as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Running back Charles Scott, offensive lineman Herman Johnson and place kicker Colt David are first-team selections, while tight end Richard Dickson and offensive lineman Ciron Black earned second-team recognition in a vote of the league?s 12 head coaches.

LSU has now placed 15 players on the Coaches? All-SEC first-team since 2005 and has combined for a total of 26 players on the first and second teams since Les Miles was named head coach. The Tigers have also placed at least three players on the first-team every season since 2000.

This marks the second-straight season that both Johnson and David have earned first-team honors from the league?s head coaches.

Johnson?s selection comes on the heels of earning first-team all-conference honors from the AP on Monday. The senior from Olla, La., started all 12 games for the Tigers during the 2008 season and has started a total of 37 games in his LSU career.

David was named a first-team All-SEC performer by the coaches again this season after receiving a second-team nod on Monday. David has shattered nearly every LSU career kicking and scoring record this season after connecting on 15-of-20 field goals. In 2008, he became the school?s all-time leading scorer surpassing Kevin Faulk and stands at 361 career points.

Scott earned his first career All-SEC honor from the league?s head coaches after also garnering an all-conference nod from the AP for the first time. The junior from Saline, La., finished the regular season with 202 carries for a career-high 1,109 yards and 15 touchdowns to lead the Tigers on the ground, and his 5.5 yards per carry average ranks No. 3 in school history for a single season.

Black was named a second-team all-conference performer by the coaches for the second year in a row after also earning second-team honors from the AP this season. He has started at left tackle in all 39 games during his collegiate career with the Tigers.

Dickson has certainly proven his worth as one of the premier tight ends in all of college football in his three seasons at LSU, and the junior from Ocean Springs, Miss., was rewarded with his first ever All-SEC selection on Tuesday. He has started all 12 games for the Tigers this season and has racked up 27 catches for 274 yards and four touchdowns from his tight end position.
