Former Tiger Doucet Gives Early Christmas To Local Kids

BATON ROUGE -- Former LSU and current Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Early Doucet took time to give back to the Baton Rouge community Tuesday afternoon by providing Christmas gifts to 26 local youth in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

?It means so much to give back to my community especially during the holiday season,? Doucet said. ?In my life, I?ve had mentors that were positive role models that have been a big part of why I am where I am today. The smiles on the faces of the kids and their parents make everything worth it.?

The kickoff luncheon was the first event of Early Doucet?s 980 Foundation, a non-profit organization that was created to inspire young people to take responsibility for their future by reducing their ?at risk? status and allowing mentors to take an active role in assisting them to reach their goals. Doucet showered the children with loads of toys, schools supplies and candy. He also gave an inspirational speech telling the kids that if you work hard and stay focused you can reach your goals whether you want to be an astronaut, doctor or President of the United States.

Doucet was a four-year letterwinner for the Tigers and a member of the 2007 National Championship team. He currently ranks third in LSU history in career receiving touchdowns (20), fourth in career receptions (160) and ninth in career receiving yards (1,943).

The New Iberia native hauled in one of the greatest catches in school history, a 39-yard scoring strike on a fourth-and-10 from JaMarcus Russell, sending the Tigers to a 35-31 victory at Arizona State in what was LSU?s first game post Hurricane Katrina.

Doucet?s Arizona Cardinals recently clinched the NFC West title securing the franchise?s first playoff spot since the 1998 season.
