Herman Johnson Named to Walter Camp All-America Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- LSU offensive guard Herman Johnson was named to the 2008 Walter Camp All-America Second Team, the nation?s oldest All-America honor, on Thursday night at The Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards Show.

Johnson, a native of Olla, La., started all 12 games this season for the Tigers at left guard and brings a streak of 36 consecutive starts into the Chick-fil-A Bowl, his final collegiate game. The 6-foot-7 senior was also a member of the 2008 All-Southeastern Conference first team by the Associated Press and league coaches earlier this week.

Johnson anchors an LSU offensive line that has helped the Tiger backfield average 167.2 yards a game, which ranks fourth in the SEC. For the season, the senior has played 825 snaps and registered 53 knockdowns.

The Walter Camp All-America team is selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the 119 Football Bowl Subdivision schools and certified by UHY Advisors, a New Haven-based accounting firm.

Johnson and the Tigers take on 14th-ranked Georgia Tech in the 2008 Chick-fil-A Bowl on Dec. 31 at 6:30 p.m. CST at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
