LSU Grabs National Seed

Past experience kept the LSU baseball team from a premature celebration when the Tigers gathered at a restaurant near campus to learn their fate in this year’s NCAA tournament. But it was all good. The Tigers, who learned Sunday they’d be hosting a regional for the first time since 2009, got the expected national seed they were after when the entire field was announced Monday morning. LSU will be the No. 7 national seed and will open the tournament Friday at 7 p.m. against in-state rival Louisiana-Monroe. “I can’t lie,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri, who was shocked last year when his team was left completely out of the tournament. “It’s very special to be back.” LSU is the top seed in the regional, while UL-Monroe is No. 4. In Friday’s afternoon game, No. 2 seed Oregon State will play No. 3 seed Belmont.
