Tigers Wipe The Floor With Tide

by Scooter Hobbs
4/16/2012

BATON ROUGE — There are baseball sweeps. And then there’s outright mopping the floor with a team. That’s what LSU did Sunday to beat Alabama 5-1, completing a three-game SEC domination in which the Crimson Tide never was in a game after the early innings. “Their pitching really just blew up our bats all weekend,” Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard said. Freshman Aaron Nola was the latest despite going just five innings on a strict pitch count after missing his start last weekend due to a fatigued shoulder. But he held the Tide to Jared Reaves’ two-out solo home run in the first inning before being pulled after five innings and new centerfielder Arby Fields continued to make the most of an unlikely opportunity with three hits and a pair of RBIs as the Tigers won for the 12th time in their last 13 games.
