Johnny Comes Marching Home To LSU

by Scooter Hobbs
4/14/2012

BATON ROUGE — DeRidder native Johnny Jones was part of the golden era of LSU basketball, on board as a player when Dale Brown put the Tigers on the map and then as an assistant coach when they had the Maravich Assembly Center rocking during the 1980s and early ‘90s. Now Jones will be entrusted to bring back that magic. The 51-year-old Jones was named the Tigers’ head coach Friday less than a week after Trent Johnson resigned to take the job at TCU. “I can’t wait to get back to Baton Rouge and LSU and get started,” said Jones, who has spent the last 11 years as head coach at North Texas. “This is certainly a dream come true to return to a place that has so many memories for me. We will hit the ground running on recruiting.”
