Dale Brown is trying to stay in the background. Honest, he is. The former LSU basketball coach/hoops evangelist is promising to keep his mouth closed as the Tigers search for a new coach who can bring back the basketball magic in Louisiana. It’s killing him, of course. But it’s Athletic Director Joe Alleva’s job, Brown said by telephone Thursday, and he doesn’t want to get involved and complicate things. Brown, still the vibrant Daddy Dale after all these years — be sure to set aside a good hour or so if you ever get him on the phone — has to be bursting inside.
