Foster's "Run-off" Single Gives LSU Sweep Over Hogs

by Scooter Hobbs

BATON ROUGE — There was very little walking involved in Jared Foster’s first college “walk-off” hit. “I was just running like crazy,” said the former Barbe standout. It was hardly an awe-inspiring, majestic blast. But Foster’s two-out, bases-loaded dribbler down the third base line got the job done as Ty Ross raced home from third to give LSU a 3-2, 11-inning victory over third-ranked Arkansas and a sweep of the SEC series. “I knew it was going to be a tough play. I didn’t hit it very hard and I knew he’d have to be charging ” said Foster. With Foster’s speed, it would have taken a miracle play, and when Arkansas third baseman Matt Reynolds couldn’t get the handle on a desperate, bare-handed grab, Foster — his eyes still on first — heard the crowd explode and knew it was good news.
