Rough Start Too Much For LSU

BATON ROUGE — After tossing an inning of batting practice, LSU’s Aaron Nola looked right at home in his first SEC start. Unfortunately the first inning generally counts, and a rude welcome to the league it was for the young freshman. Nola gave up five runs and five hits, four of them doubles, in that first inning alone. Mississippi State scored three times before he got his first SEC out, and the Bulldogs coasted to a 7-1 victory over the offensively challenged Tigers. LSU (16-4, 2-1) still claimed the SEC opening series after winning the first two games with great pitching, just enough timely hitting and sterling defense.
